From Biscuits to Bananas
“From Biscuits to Bananas” calls upon dancer nomenclature of taking a rigid foot, aka “a biscuit,” and transforming it into a strong, mobile foot, “a banana.” Appropriate for all levels of movers, this workshop is designed to make foot/ankle mobility techniques developed by professional dancers more accessible to people of all walks of life. The repertoire taught in this workshop aims to increase the range of motion and acceleration/deceleration control of the foot and ankle. Fancy Feet aren’t just for Dancers!

Hip Me With Your Best Shot
“Hip Me…” is designed to enhance the participants’ understanding of the various challenges encountered and viable solution options when working with clients with labral pathologies. To date, there are no bonafide guidelines for the pre and post-rehabilitation of hip scopes for labral pathologies. However, both Physical Therapists and Pilates teachers frequently encounter pre and post hip scope patients/clients. Successful outcomes incorporate identifying adequate ranges of motion with optimal joint congruency, alignment and efficient neuromuscular recruitment strategies in a pain-free environment. Utilizing Pilates mat and equipment, participants of this workshop will understand the rationale behind re-education strategies using the Pilates repertoire and apparatus. This workshop includes a lecture incorporating a review of surgical and non-surgical options followed by a demonstration of tailored Pilates exercises with home program. The goal of the workshop is to offer new movement strategies and viable solutions for care and conditioning to an ever-growing population. This workshop is appropriate for Pilates Teachers, Physical Therapists and healthcare professionals.

Psoftening the Psoas
The psoas is a powerful stabilizer of the spine and responsible for end range hip flexion. A dysfunctional, hypertrophied psoas develops as part of a compensation strategy for underlying faulty motor patterns and/or injuries. Explore strategies for retraining the muscles of the hip complex (including the psoas) in an effort to offer people of all walks of life, many more years of PAIN FREE hip and spine mobility.

Reminding the Ribs
The thoracic spine can be the most troubling and problematic area of the spine to work with for both new and experienced Pilates teachers. The rib cage is responsible for protecting our organs, insomuch that the ribs can hinder the thoracic spine’s potential for movement. The multifaceted joints of the thoracic spine and rib attachments also complicate our movement outcomes. Two large and powerful muscles, the diaphragm and the psoas, attach into the T12, further influencing the movement of the thoracic spine. When we better understand the anatomy and movement potential for the thoracic spine, we can access its multitude of ranges and combination movements more effectively and help our clients discover painless and free flowing spine movement. In Reminding the Ribs, we will learn repertoire to unleash the full potential of the thoracic spine and its effect on the lumbar and cervical segments. The aim of the repertoire will be to originate movement at the thoracic spine and work proximal to distal, echoing J.H. Pilates Principle of Centering as he describes in his book, Return to Life Through Contrology.
