    You will learn to:

    • Teach the entire Pilates Reformer repertoire — 45 exercises and more than 300 variations
    • Lead group Reformer classes with confidence, and adapt them to whoever is in the room
    • Assess a client using the Polestar Assessment Tool (PAT12) and turn the findings into a Reformer programme
    • Adjust springs, footbar, straps and box to change an exercise for the person in front of you
    • Sequence a class that flows, from beginning through to advanced level
    • Work safely with injuries, pregnancy and special populations, within your scope of practice

    Program advantages:

    • Principles of Movement plus three two-day modules — a professional qualification on one apparatus
    • Faculty-led labs and real case discussion, not video alone
    • The Reformer taught in depth, and the shortest route into teaching Pilates professionally
    • Polestar Online access throughout, and a global community of movement professionals

The full series comprises Principles of Movement and Reformer 1 to 3, taken in the following order: Principles of Movement, Reformer 1, Reformer 2, Reformer 3. Successful completion of the series enables participants to sit the Reformer Exam.

The course opens with Principles of Movement, taught in person, where you experience and apply the theories of movement that lay the foundation for Polestar Pilates — breath, alignment, mobility, control and movement integration. This material lays the groundwork for all movement analysis, teaching and client programming that follows, and is the prerequisite for every module after it.

The practical modules build the Pilates Reformer repertoire, together with client assessment using the Polestar Assessment Tool, programme design, cueing, and work with special populations. Each module builds directly on the one before it, so the modules must be taken in order.

Access to the Polestar online material is included in your course fee, subject to a validity period — please see our terms and conditions. The Polestar Principles of Movement book by Dr Brent Anderson is the reading material for the Principles module and is purchased separately.

    Objectives

On successful completion of the Reformer programme you will be able to:

    Demonstration

    • Perform the 45 Reformer exercises set out in the Polestar Reformer 1–3 manuals, and their variations, with confidence and flow
    • Set up and handle the Reformer safely, and identify the anatomical landmarks you are working with
    • Perform each exercise’s progressions and regressions, and apply its precautions and contraindications
    • Apply the Polestar Principles of Movement — breath, mobility, alignment, control and movement integration — to your own practice

    Teaching

    • Teach every exercise in the Reformer repertoire, including its variations, progressions and regressions
    • Lead both private sessions and group Reformer classes
    • Combine verbal, tactile and imagery cueing to change what a client understands and how they move
    • Apply precautions and contraindications, and handle the Reformer safely, while teaching
    • Use the Polestar Principles of Movement as coaching techniques

    Programme design

    • Conduct and interpret both a postural assessment and the Polestar Assessment Tool (PAT12)
    • Turn those findings into an exercise plan built on Polestar’s Program Design and Sequencing Guidelines
    • Select exercises and set up the Reformer using the Polestar Principles of Movement
    • Design beginning to advanced Reformer classes, and adapt sequences for diverse populations
