Did you know that 90% of women who have given birth experience some form of birth injury?
These injuries can lead to pelvic organ prolapse, bladder or bowel incontinence, sciatic pain, low back and hip pain, pain during intimacy, and many other symptoms. And it’s not limited to postpartum women—over 50% of all women experience some form of incontinence, regardless of whether they’ve given birth.

As estrogen levels decline during menopause and beyond, the risk of pelvic floor dysfunction increases, due in part to reduced collagen production.
As Pilates teachers, we are in a unique and powerful position. We have the tools and expertise to support these women—we just need to know how to use them with intention.

Learning Outcomes:

  1. Learn the most common pelvic health conditions affecting women today.
  2. Discover how to adapt your teaching of the Pilates method to help restore balance through the pelvis—and the whole body.
  3. Understand how to use cues and imagery in a way that creates meaningful, lasting change.

The Apparatus is the ideal starting point. With the support of springs, carefully curated movement, and purposeful cues, you’ll explore how to improve pelvic floor function through the Whole Body Pelvic Health Method—focusing on breath, tension release, range of motion, and neuromuscular coordination. You’ll also explore why traditional strength-based approaches have often failed women, and how a biotensegrity-informed model offers a more effective, intelligent future for pelvic floor support.

Workshop Objectives:

  • Understand why a whole body approach is essential for balanced pelvic health.
  • Learn why Pilates teachers must be Whole Body Pelvic Health–informed and how Pilates can support this work.
  • Identify common pelvic health conditions and symptoms—and learn how to adapt your classes to support them.
  • Recognise common compensations, why they occur, and how to spot them in your classes.
  • Learn example exercises and Whole Body Pelvic Health strategies for effective cueing and sequencing.

“Claire’s approach to pelvic health is the revolution every woman needs.”
— Anna Crowle, Women’s Pelvic Health Physiotherapist & Researcher

Walking with the whole body by unlocking the Pelvis, Spine and Feet

Presenter: Dawnna Wayburne
Duration: 2.5hrs
Suited for: Pilates Teachers and Movement Professionals
Polestar CECs: 2.5

How can we improve gait? In this workshop, Dawnna offers  simple functional movement patterns that will allow you and your clients to move more efficiently while walking. She starts with a breakdown of what is happening during gait and then goes into an assessment with different bodies so participants can observe their patterns.

After the assessment, course participants will take part in a  basic movement class to help facilitate better movement and demystify gait . The exercises in this class isolate and integrate the workings of key aspects of walking and/ or running  to show how each part of the body balances and works in concert with the others. The workshop culminates in  reassessment  if there is an improvement.

The strategies participants explore will especially benefit both seniors,  runners and regular “walkers”  and demystify concepts of ambulation.

Dr. Brent Anderson – Principles of Movement Book

Book cover for "Principles of Movement" by Brent Anderson, featuring a person performing a handstand in gradient red and purple tones.

From the founder of Polestar Pilates, Principles of Movement is a practical resource guide on movement science for movement practitioners, therapists, and anyone looking for a practical and easy approach to assess, facilitate, and enhance movement.

With applications in physical therapy, occupational therapy, athletic training, kinesiology, physical education, Pilates training, yoga training, dance education, and more, Principles of Movement is designed to help the movement practitioner improve the quality of their practice by better understanding the integrated model of movement assessment and movement facilitation. The text focuses on how to facilitate the quality of movement—not just the quantity.

Author Dr. Brent Anderson draws upon his 30 years of experience in rehabilitation and movement science, showing the strong correlation between motor control and biomechanics, and integrating new work on fascia, pain interpretation, and behavioral elements associated with movement. Principles of Movement is designed to facilitate problem solving and movement enhancement through a deeper understanding of universal movement principles.
